Madison City Schools has once again landed near the top of a national school research group’s list of Best School Districts in Alabama and in the U.S.
Niche, a national website for education research, ranked Madison City 3rd among 137 school districts in Alabama, giving it an overall Niche Grade of A+.

The study awarded an A or A+ letter grade to every category assessed in the district: academics, teachers, clubs & activities, college prep, resources and facilities, sports, health and safety, administration and food. Individual schools were also graded. Every Madison City elementary, middle and high school received either an A or A+ grade.
“We are pleased to be recognized by this Best School District ranking. It is a testament to the hard work of our teachers and staffs and of the students we serve. We’ll celebrate today while continuing to find ways to improve,” said Dr. Heather Donaldson, Chief Academic Officer for Madison City Schools.
Nationally, Madison placed 159th out of 10,574 “Best in America” school districts covered by the Niche study. That put Madison in the 1.5 percentile of the nation’s “Best in America” school systems identified by Niche.
The 2018 scoring was based on a variety of factors including test scores, student-teacher ratios, reviews from parents and students, and other data analyzed by Niche team from such sources as the National Center for Education Statistics, U.S. Department of Education and others.
